How’s your water drinking going? We understand that our body’s water supply helps us look, feel, and perform at our best. Our health depends on sufficient water intake daily. Do you drink enough water? If not, let’s come up with some simple ways to make this most important goal doable.
Drinking enough filtered water daily is the most important healthy habit we can establish. It should be first on everyone’s list. So, how much water should we be drinking? Purpose to drink one-third to one-half of your body weight in ounces per day, for optimal health benefits.
Example: A person weighing 135 pounds (135 divided by 2 = 67.5) should consume 67.5 ounces of water each day. That’s about 8.5 eight-ounce glasses of water a day.
12 Simple Ways to Drink More, Filtered Water
1. Drink water first -
If drinking water first thing each morning isn’t a habit you’ve established, here is a great reminder. Place a glass of water on your bedside table when you go to bed. Drink it as soon as you get up.
2. Between cups of coffee -
Drink at least one-half cup of water between cups of coffee, to stay hydrated.
3. Add water to smoothies -
When making smoothies, add water as your liquid, instead of milk or fruit juice. Using water will also reduce your sugar intake. (Yes, milk and juice are high in sugar.)
4. In plain view -
Keep your favorite glass or reusable bottle filled with water on your desk, or in your work area, to make sipping water convenient.
5. Set goals using visual prompts -
How many eight- or sixteen-ounce glasses of water do you want to drink in a day? Put one large rubber band around your drinking glass for each glass of water you want to drink. (See sample shown in photo at top of page.) Every time you finish drinking a glass of water, remove a rubber band.
6. Drink water before meals –
Restrict yourself from food until you’re consumed a glass of water. Drinking water before every meal helps you achieve about one-third of your daily goal.
7. Quick citrus infusion -
The quickest way to infuse your water with fresh fruit is to squeeze wedges of citrus fruit: oranges, tangerines, limes, or lemon into your drink container filled with pure water.
8. Flavor your water -
Transforming a glass of water into a delicious beverage is easy when you add drops of noncaloric, flavored, liquid stevia. It comes in a variety of fruit, and even candy flavors.
9. Lemonade by the glass -
Add a drop of lemon or other citrus essential oil, and your preferred sweetener to a glass of water. Stir and enjoy.
10. Take the water challenge -
Set a timer to go off every hour while working. Drink water every hour to achieve your daily goals.
11. There’s an app for that -
If you like scheduling tasks on your mobile devices, keep track of your water consumption with a smart phone drinking water app. WaterLogged, TapIt Water, Daily Water Tracker, and OasisPlaces are a few of the many free apps available. Some apps have reminders and alerts to help you drink more water.
12. POU purifying, water dispenser -
If the tap water at work tastes bad, you won’t drink much of it, if any, and probably shouldn’t. Drinking water throughout the work day is important, but it’s not enough. The quality of the water you drink is as essential to your health as the number of ounces you consume. A purifying water dispenser cleans up your tap water, and dispenses it at hot, cold and ambient temperatures. Some units also make ice. A bottle-less water cooler makes it easy to drink quality water all day long. Pure water has a refreshing taste. Drink filtered water with confidence – install a POU water cooler, and congratulate yourself for taking the most important step toward taking care of your body.
